What's New in Version 3.2.1 for Presto

Presto has been tested in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (SP2), Linux Ubuntu 11.1 and Mac OS X 10.X.
The latest version of Sun JDK 1.5 or 1.6. The minimum recommended versions are JDK 1.5, update 20 or later, and JDK 1.6, update 15 or later.
Important: Using the latest version of the JDK helps to ensure that all known security issues have been addressed.
Support for authentication using NTLM version 2 and Mashup Sites for SharePoint on Linux, Mac OS X or Solaris operating systems specifically requires JDK 1.6. NTLM version 2 authentication on Windows is available with either JDK 1.5 or 1.6.

The Single Sign-on Service (2007) or Secure Store Service (2010) in SharePoint are required to use the Mashup Sites for SharePoint Single Sign-On feature. This significantly improves the user experience by removing or reducing login challenges. See Microsoft documentation for more details on single sign-on capabilities in SharePoint.

Note: Per Microsoft, SharePoint Server 2010 requires a 64-bit architecture.
In most installations, authentication between SharePoint and Presto uses the NTLM version 2 protocol. See Recommendations for Presto for requirements in Presto to support this protocol.
The Mashup Studio Eclipse Plug-in is recommended to be installed on development clients along with Presto servers and applications. This plug-in can be installed separately. If Presto is co-hosted with Mashup Studio, see Recommendations for Presto for additional requirements.

The Portal Add-On is a portlet producer compatible with any JSR-168 Portlet Specification or JSR-286 Portlet 2.0 compliant portal. The Portal Add-On has no additional system requirements beyond those for your portal.

Additional requirements for the following built-in views for Presto mashable or mashup results include:
Google Maps View requires Internet access and a unique Google key for each separate domain that hosts the Mashup Server.
Desktop chart Views, for all chart types, require Adobe Flash 10 or higher. On 64-bit browsers or operating systems, this requires Adobe Flash 11 or higher.
Presto initially installs one WAR file and the following additional software:
presto.war = the Mashup Server, Presto Hub and the AppDepot
Apache's Tomcat Servlet Container, v 6.0.29.
Note: For Windows environments, this is for 32-bit machines.
HSQL Database, v1.8.0.
Important: The HSQL database installed with Presto is suitable only for initial trial purposes. For proof-of-concept work or production use, move the Presto Repository to a compatible database with robust support. See Presto Database Compatibility for details.
Some Add-Ons are provided in separate packages that you download.
You determine the actual ports that Presto uses, although this typically also depends on the application server that hosts Presto and the database that hosts the Presto Repository. The default ports for Presto are:

Presto is installed with Tomcat as its default servlet container. Presto is compatible with Tomcat or any J2EE application server with Sun JDK 1.5 or 1.6. Presto has been tested in the following application server configurations:

Presto has an internal database, the Presto Repository and also works with databases making database assets visible in Presto as mashable information sources.

Presto supports any database with a JDBC 2.1 compliant driver as a mashable information source. Database mashables have been tested with:

Presto provides an internal caching solution, using EhCache, that is local to each Mashup Server. In clustered environments, Presto can continue using this local cache solution or you can integrate Presto with third-party solutions that support distributed caching.
Presto directly supports the memcached distributed caching solution with a simple installation and configuration. This has been tested on Windows XP (SP2) and Vista, Linux (Ubuntu) and Solaris with memcached version 1.2.6 (for Windows) and version 1.4.5 (for other operating systems).
Migrating from Presto 3.2 to 3.2.1 is a minimal upgrade. It requires no updates to the Presto Repository or to artifacts. See Migrating to New Releases with Minimal Upgrades for instructions.
The Presto Portal Add-On 3.2.1 requires Presto 3.2.1 plus the presto-patch-3_2_1-Portal-20120508.zip patch. No updates to artifacts are required.

Upgrade Presto to this release, if needed.
Apply the Presto presto-patch-3_2_1-Portal-20120508.zip patch before deploying the Portal Add-On 3.2.1 release. Instructions for applying this patch can be found in the README file in the patch download.

If you choose to render Apps inline within portlets to improve performation, you must also disable the internal Presto cache for Resource Files. See Configuring Resource File Compression and Caching for instructions.
Mashup Sites for SharePoint 3.2 requires Presto 3.2. The Mashup Sites for SharePoint 3.2.1 release which will be compatible with Presto 3.2.1 is coming soon!
This Presto release primarily contains fixes to known issues with a few enhancements or new features:
This release includes significant improvements in performance for Apps and other Presto artifacts. As part of performance enhancements, Presto now supports distributed caching for artifacts, also known as Presto Repository caching, in addition to the existing support for distributed caching for service responses.
In addition to enhancements to App performance, this release fixes many known issues regarding App sizing and resizing in desktop devices. This applies to individual Apps or to Apps included in workspace Apps.
In addition, Mashboard has added a feature to allow workspace designers to control App heights in a workspace by dragging App footers. Combining this with the existing options to control column width gives designers many more options to play with and customize the layout of a workspaces using Column or Desktop layouts.
As part of performance enhancements, this release has removed the Open Apps tab in the AppDepot. Apps now open in their own window or tab in desktop browsers.
Users can manage which Apps they are working with using the App’s tab or window. Users can also easily reopen Apps that they have worked with recently using the new Recently Used menu in the All Apps tab in AppDepot.
Users can also directly set their preferences when they mark an App as a favorite and make this a 'personal copy' with a new name.
The following built-in blocks in Wires now provide simple date math functions, such as being able to calculate a date three days in the past:

In addition, the Date Builder block now also supports dates and times.
This release of the Portal Add-On is compatible with Presto 3.2.1 plus one patch. See Migrating to New Releases for more information. In addition to fixes to known issues, this release builds on the performance enhancements work for Presto 3.2.1.
It also provides new preferences for the App portlet to provide greater control or options for:
Updating pagination for Apps.
Changing App themes.
Showing or hiding the App Title Bar and the standard Presto App toolbar.
Showing or hiding the Presto App input form to allow any user with permissions to use the App to change App input parameters for the current session.
An inline option to potentially improve App performance.
