Our previous esteemed Member of the Month Innes Fisher has capitalized on his passion for mashups by providing his internal IT staff with better insight into the 10 veterinary clinics they manage and support. When Innes first started with mashups he told me he had only “stratched the surface” but after his tenure as our first MDC Member of the Month he has achieved a much deeper expertise and understanding then I think he had anticipated. He’s now blogging, helping members in the forums and sharing his mashups for everyone to rate, comment and build upon. We’re proud to have him as part of our community and we hope his story continues to inspire other small businesses to experiment with enterprise mashup technology as a solution to create deeper visibility and better insight into their business.

This Month's Members of the Month include a Group we call 'Mashup Masters'

This month we decided to highlight a different group of community members who are equally valuable in increasing adoption of enterprise mashup technology. We want to recognize our ‘Mashup Masters,’ members furthering their careers through pursuing emerging technology as a post-graduate degree. Some of these members have been in the workforce prior to going back to school to investigate new trends and advancements in enterprise IT. Some of these students are learning, at an early stage, where enterprise mashups fit into the evolving enterprise architecture.

Every few weeks I spark up a conversation with a member studying enterprise mashups as a post graduate degree and each time I’m astonished at their want to change the way we look and interact with information in today's enterprise. Just listen to their stories:

  • Geet Baishya wants to use enterprise mashups to predict natural disasters.
  • Keyur Padalia wants to learn the security concerns of embeddable mashup apps for large enterprises looking to share their data with outside partners.
  • Martin Sommerlandt is using mashup technology to build an XML repository for semi-automatic mashup generation using mashup relationships.
  • Remco Goorhuis is trying to pin-point just how mature ‘mashup technology’ really is.
  • Bernard Labno wants to learn more about how to use JavaScript to build custom mashlets.

What’s interesting about these community members’ stories are they follow right in line with many of the stories I’ve heard our enterprise developers in large organizations ask me when evaluating enterprise mashup technology. It goes to show, communities are a place where we can all learn from each other. Whether young or old, experienced or inexperienced, employed at a fortune 500 company or at a non-profit organization working to change the world. Evaluating emerging technology allows us all to come to our own conclusions on the value and benefits of a technology shift.

Tell us what you’re doing with mashups and why that idea, application or mission makes you our next ‘Mashup Developer Community Member of the Month’.
