How is this different from what we could do from a ESB or EAI framework?

ESBs are decidely IT-only tools.  In contrast, a well-build enterprise mashup platform has a high degree of self- or user-driven mashup development.  IT establishes the framework (registering sources, setting up security/governance rules) and then lets the users do much of the assembly and sharing.
