Hi all,
Recently my users, specially our PMP, have been entering to dark side and beign very creatives with Presto. This is part of their thoughts. "Within mashboard we can create a web app. to send info to others systems, then displaying data from mashups"
"Clicking on mashlet displayed on Sharepoint or Portal Server should act as a multi-screen web application, but embedded and displayed in a web-part, acting as a whole-app"
IMHO Mashups/Mashlets technology should be to create interaction through several systems, consumming or creating services, walking to SOA environments, acting as micro-channels to review different TV broadcasts (my user level example to explain what is a mashlet or portlet RIP), but shouldn't be to construct new applicactions where Java or .Net would act as main dev. languages, robust logic, back-end gigant operations should remain proccessing withing these technologies, either Oracle procedure or Shell script may be elected over a mashup, where applicable.
How to explain this to people thinking to convert Presto not in an excellent SOA Platform to share and mash info, but in a low-cost / faster development platform? Currently they're thinking / excited in become excel docs into databases instead of going deeper to a SOA solution.
Frustated to explain this, or am I wrong? What do you think?
Sorry for typos or grammar, jeje
Best,
Gabo

Hi Gabo, You are exactly
Hi Gabo,
You are exactly right. Even though we talk about using Presto to mashup and share data, it acts as an excellent SOA application platform. As a matter of fact, when we first started building it, we described it a way to "Put a Face on SOA". Which is essentially another way of saying, it makes for a great application platform for SOA apps.
Does that help?
Hi John, Yep, you're right. I
Hi John,
Yep, you're right. I agree totally. Presto should stay solving SOA and giving a face also, but not replacing other languages or tools created to solve big systems or back-end layer.
This is exactly what SOA is about, isn'it? even more, mashups are to mixed solutions over companies to give best of breed.
Currently our customer is totally happy, our implementation with Presto really rocks over other portals, I'm looking forward to drive customer to more SOA environment, not only mashing-up excel and oracle services but connecting old and legacy systems with wsdl and xml to mashup them later, we will display some mashlets over Iphone next months.
Thanks for your attention.
Cool regards
Gabo
BTW, your book is best patterns book on my shelf
