To use the Presto 3.0 Cloud Edition, you must be a member of the Mashup Developer Community. Your MDC membership also gives you access to the helpful resources on the MDC like how-tos, featured apps, blogs and support forums. What is ‘Presto Cloud Edition’?
Presto Cloud Edition is JackBe’s award-winning Presto Enterprise Mashup Server running on Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud, often called ‘Amazon EC2’. As a Mashup Developer Community member, you can use this instance of Presto to start making Mashups and Apps in minutes. And we have hundreds of sample Mashables, Mashups and Apps for you to play with.
What’s the ‘Presto Enterprise App Store’? Why would I want to publish my Apps to the Presto Enterprise App Store?
You want to publish your Apps to the Enterprise App Store so that you can collaborate with others by commenting, rating and sharing your Apps with other users. And in the Presto Enterprise App Store you can use Apps, personalize Apps, share Apps, and embed Apps in other enterprise destinations. If I register a Mashable, create a Mashup or build an App using Presto Cloud Edition, can everyone see it?
Only you can see what you create unless you make it available to others. If you do want to share with other users of the Presto Cloud Edition, there are 3 things you can share: ‘Mashables’ (often called ‘Services’ or ‘Data Sources’), Mashups, and Apps.
Here’s how to share Mashables, Mashups and Apps with other users:
Mashables: reference the screenshot above when following the process to share your Mashable with other community members.
Step 1: Once you’ve selected the Mashable you want to share, click ‘security’ located on the left menu bar of the service details page.
Step 2: In the search box type, ‘presto_dev’ and check ‘search groups’.
Step 3: Once the role ‘presto_dev’ returns, click on the role to ensure the role ‘presto_dev’ has been moved under the ‘principles with permissions’ column.
Step 4: Select ‘assign permissions’ at the bottom of the service details page to confirm the role change (please refer to the screenshot above)
Mashups: Follow the same steps as above. Start by browsing for the Mashup in Hub. ** Please note: If you do not share the Mashables that your Mashup is built on, other users will not be able to run your Mashup. **
Apps: Use the underlying security that is applied to the Mashables/Mashups that they use. ** Please note: If you do not share the Mashables that your App is built on, other users will not be able to run your App. **
Are my data, Mashups and Apps safe on Presto Cloud Edition?
Presto is the most secure enterprise Mashup platform available today. However, the Presto Cloud Edition is a public Mashup- and App-making community and we strongly recommend you do not use sensitive personal or corporate data in your Mashups.
What can I mash? Do I have to go find data sources myself?
There are over 220 Mashable resources, 200 Mashups and 220 Apps. There a few ways you can take advantage of all the Presto resources at your fingertips.
You can find Mashables and Mashups in both Wires and Mashup Editor depending on how you want to build your mashup. Mashup Editor = Code; Wires = Drag-and-drop wiring
You can find Apps by browsing in Hub and visiting the Enterprise App Store
Can I use the Presto Excel Connector or Presto Studio with the Presto Cloud Edition?
Not yet. We’re working on that now and will make them available to you as soon as we can.
What do I need to run Presto Cloud Edition?
You only need a browser. We recommend the following browsers for the best experience:
Microsoft IE7
Microsoft IE8 (in IE7 compatibility mode)
Safari 4.0+
Firefox 3.0+
Chrome 5.0+
