Actually both are in the documentation (which is not hosted in the MDC if that is where you have been looking).
For instructions on the requirements to upgrade from 2.6.1 to 2.7, you can find a synposis in release notes in the 2.7 installation with links to the pertinent topics. Or go to:

For instructions on how to re-enable the default admin account (and password), go to:

Hello community,
I haven't used my 2.6.1 install in a while, and forgot the admin password I set. Anyway to reset it?
Second, I installed 2.7 a while ago, but want some guidance to move my mashlets and mashups to 2.7 from my 2.6.1 instance.
I did a quick look in online docs and didn't find anything.
If anyone has answers, thanks.
