Working with Mashlets

Mashlets wrap the results from Presto mashups and services with a view – the format needed to see those results in different forms. You can see mashlets by themselves, use tags to quickly add mashlets to web pages or wikis, or add mashlets to other gadget environments like NetVibes or iGoogle. Your IT staff can also add mashlets to portals.

The Mashlet Maker allows you to create two kinds of mashlets:

Basic mashlets combine the results from a service or mashup with a built-in Presto view. They are very simple to create using Mashlet Maker or from links in Wires and Service Explorer.

See Making Basic Mashlets for Services or Mashups for instructions and Basic Mashlet Toolbar for information on the standard actions available for basic mashlets.

Custom mashlets may also combine the results from a service or mashup with a view or they may simply handle a task or provide information. Your IT staff creates the custom mashlet types that you use to create custom mashlets.

See Making Custom Mashlets from Types for instructions on creating custom mashlets from mashlet types.

You can also find mashlets that other user have created, rate mashlets or manage mashlets that you create in Mashlet Maker. See Managing Mashlets for more information.

See Working With the Mashlet API and Framework for more information on developing custom mashlet types. See Working with the Portal Connector for links to topics on adding mashlets to portals or creating mashlets from portlet
