Data is everywhere and in so many different platforms, technology, and formats; the question is 'how to put all this data together to take advantage of it on demand?'. Wouldn't it be great to combine data from all the areas in your company regardless of the container? We used to have most systems based in databases and a few others in text files. Now we have others now in XML, etc. How do we merge them?
The answer is not to write a custom application; by now you know it will take a fortune and a lot of time. Fortunately JackBe has created a new Enterprise Suite to do all this for you. In minutes you can download a Developer Edition of the product, install it, and merge the most common data source types like Database, Webservices, REST, POJOs, and even Microsoft Excel Spread Sheets. This is the Revolution of the Data , which we call Mashups.
I know, I know ... you must have questions. Here's two I had when I first heard about mashups:
1. How is this possible ?
Part of the answer is EMML ( Enterprise Mashup Markup Language ), a language created by the awesome engineering team at JackBe. This is an XML-based declarative language which uses XML , XPATH, XQUERY , RUBY , JAVA , JAVASCRIPT to mash the data up. Every EMML snippet is saved as a script and executed by the Presto Mashup Server dynamically (i.e. in real-time).
There's more to mashups, of course. But I think EMML is a key part of any good mashup solution.
2.How do you expose these mashups to others?
The same engineering team created a series of APIs to consume Presto Mashups and integrate them into almost ANY other system!! So I am saying that you can consume Presto Mashups either in a Server or in a Client: Presto has APIs for several languages like Java, JavaScript, C #, Excel, VisualBasic and REST. You dont need to migrate your system to a new technology. You only need to mash your information up and then you can consume it from any where (Web applications, Facebook, iGoogle, Java Server Apps, Java Client Apps, .NET Apps, Excel Spreed Sheets or Macros, etc.).
I think you might want to take a deeper look at this technology. It is easy to overlook these kind of features at first glance. Go ahead! Take advantage of it and start getting extraordinary information from your data in minutes.
