JackBe's Enterprise Web 2.0 Solution for E-Commerce Leader Exceeds Expectations

NutrisystemIncreased usability, reliability and user empowerment are all key factors in determining the success of an e-commerce website. In today's business world, online Web applications are becoming rich, interactive and user driven to reflect the changing market of Enterprise Web 2.0 technology. To become a market leader within the weight loss industry, Nutrisystem implemented a Web 2.0 solution from JackBe to build brand solidarity and increase revenue in an ever changing market.

Company Profile

Nutrisystem has been helping America get thin and healthy for the past 30 years. Through its comprehensive weight loss program, Nutrisystem has been a leader in the weight loss industry. Nutrisystem believes in its clients and is there to help them every step of the way. Together with its growing online member community, Nutrisystem makes weight loss - and the goal of becoming healthy and fit - a reality for millions. Through their website and call center, customers can order 24 hours a day, seven days a week from one of the pre-set food packages or completely customize their monthly food orders.

The Challenge

As Nutrisystem sales grew, it was apparent that a growing percentage of revenue was generated by shoppers who wanted to customize their monthly meal plans instead of opting for a pre-selected meal package. Shoppers had two options to place their orders - by phone or online. The online shopping cart experience was designed to become the primary channel customers used to purchase products from Nutrisystem. Overtime, research suggested the cart experience did not adequately reflect the core company principle which models a results-driven approach.

To meet the shopper's need for a dynamic web experience, a more robust interactive solution was required. The shopping cart model was lacking in speed, effectiveness and functionality unable to keep the user engaged long enough to finish the purchase cycle. Users were either abandoning the site or choosing to finish purchasing their order through the Nutrisystem call center. Nutrisystem understood that their outdated web technology had become a barrier in delivering an optimized shopping experience and believed JackBe's next-generation platform was the solution in building a highly functioning productive e-commerce website.

The JackBe Solution

Although Nutrisystem offered an extensive product selection and an easy navigational system, they still struggled to offer a positive shopping experience that generated a repeat online customer base. They needed a web based application that would model traditional desktop like applications resulting in a rich, responsive, user experience. Users needed the ability to view, add, edit and delete items in their shopping cart quickly and effectively without multiple page refreshes.

JackBe was implemented in a series of smaller implementations so that it would not disrupt the current business functions and produce an end result that modeled a secure, scalable enterprise grade application. This data-driven framework – powered by JackBe – let Nutrisystem execute changes to the web application in a way that standard HTML web pages simply do not. The end solution provides a shopping cart that moves dynamically within the screen and always stays within the user's view reflecting instant changes to food quantities as shoppers edit items. The understanding of user empowerment and customization has lead Web 2.0 technology to the forefront of Nutrisystem's business model.
